free palestine!

Suicide bombing is reprehensible, but it is a direct and, in my opinion, consciously programmed result of years of abuse, powerlessness and despair. It has as little to do with the Arab or Muslim supposed propensity for violence as the man in the moon

Edward Said (from Punishment by Detail)

Let us all stand together against the disgusting actions and ever increasing occupation of Palestine by Israel. The Palestinian-Israeli/Zionist conflict is the worst and most inhumane conflict of our time! As we speak, Israeli forces have killed over 350 Palestinians, many of these civilians. So much for the western rhetoric of democracy, development and human rights! In 2008 an estimated 2.8 billion US dollars went to Israel as "aid", most of it spent on military equipment used to bomb innocent Palestinians, caged into the Gaza strip, the most densely populated area in the world. The Palestinians have for generations been growing up in refugee camps with terror and insecurity, suffering under incomprehensible structural violence, embargoes and closed borders, deprived of basic services, food, medicine, electricity, health care, fuel! The continuous support by the US, the UK and a completely lame duck, the UN, needs to stop!

FREE PALESTINE!

"Imprisoning of a whole nation" by John Pilger can be read here!

Align Left
"What is Israel's idea of a truce? It is very simple: Palestinians have the right to remain silent while Israel starves them, kills them and continues to violently colonise their land."

"Diplomatic fronts, such as the US-dominated Quartet, continue to treat occupier and occupied, coloniser and colonised, first-world high-tech army and near-starving refugee population, as if they are on the same footing. Hope is fading that the incoming administration of Barack Obama is going to make any fundamental change to US policies that are hopelessly biased towards Israel."

the transkei

released from the chains
my back turned against what keeps me down
the world is passing by

my soul is on hold

susceptible to the world

my beautiful sista martine and I decided a few weeks ago that the time had come to leave western cape and city life. we jumped on the plane to explore the hidden secrets of the eastern cape, and yes! - we found paradise in the transkei!

we spent most of our time in cintsa (buccaneers) and stunning bulungula - an eco-friendly fair trade lodge 2 hours 4x4 drive from (u)mthatha - absolute paradise! definitely the most beautiful place I have ever been to.

waking up at 3 am, looking out at moon and stars
the waves are breaking, the sea never sleeps
neither does the rooster
- his first wake up call starts around these times
he wakes me several times, but i re-enter the world of sleep
at 530 am the warm light of the sun stretches across the beach,
and touches the rondavels and the sleeping donkey outside
but - i make sure not to step in the donkey's poo
as i stretch my arms over my head
and walk into the dewy grass towards the beach
as the morning gets old

i wish all of you wonderful ones a peaceful christmas
and a perky new year 2009!

(ps - it makes me very happy if you leave comments when you visit my blog!)
