as we say in norwegian, things are going fast in the turns... jerre.
the former deputy president of south africa and a rather controversial figure, jacob zuma, was removed from office due to accusations of rape and corruption in 2005. the rape case was dismissed and nothing has happened so far regarding the corruption charges.
in december, less than a month ago, zuma was elected as the new leader of the african national congress (anc, who has been the leading party in south africa since the death of apartheid in 1994). hence, he will (most likely) become south africa's president when thabo mbeki steps down in 2009.
however, after zuma's victory as the new head of the anc, there has been a recharge against him and his corruption business. the trial is supposedly taking place in august this year.
what amuses me is that zuma was dismissed as deputy president when he was charged a few years ago. now, with a trial where there is no way he can go clean, he can still be head of the leading party and most likely he is the coming president!
anc has a weekly letter on their website, written by the president - as I opened this week's letter, I got this thrown in my face:

so now zuma is president? can you see guilty of corruption and I am a moral disaster written on his forehead? yoh, things are happening fast in south africa! ;)(yeah-yeah, i know its meant to be party president)
(zapiro from mg.co.za)may zuma's record be clean and let his insanely bad moral go away (he might be able to shower it away?). lets pray that he brings in bright comrades on his team, and that he will impress and surprise us - so that south africa can become a better place for all! or - most likely, he wont become president! the big question then is, who will replace him?
peace! %)
